The Flagship Project
Location
Bulabulin Ngarnam, Jere Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria
Date
May 2016
In 2016, The Sahel Initiative launched its very first water project in Bulabulin Ngarnam, a community in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria.
Located near Maiduguri, the community faced severe water scarcity and health risks from unsafe sources. Its proximity to the state capital made it a strategic choice amidst security challenges in the region.
Our dedicated volunteers visited the community, confirmed the urgent need, and met with the Village Head and local leaders to identify a safe, accessible location for all. On May 5, 2016, work began. Just three weeks later, the community had its first source of clean, reliable water — a borehole completed at a modest cost of $700.
This pilot project not only brought life-changing water access to Bulabulin Ngarnam, but also shaped the blueprint for every successful borehole we’ve delivered since. It proved that with a small group of committed people, real change is possible.
