Kawo/Mariri Project

To address longstanding water scarcity in the Kano metropolitan area, The Sahel Initiative completed two vital borehole projects in the communities of Kawo and Mariri.

For years, residents of these communities relied on unsafe, unreliable water sources — leading to poor hygiene, waterborne diseases, and daily hardship.

Our team worked closely with local leaders to identify accessible, community-centered locations for each borehole, ensuring safe, reliable water for daily use. Today, both Kawo and Mariri have clean, dependable water sources — improving health, hygiene, and easing the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to find water.
